A Long Overdue Night Out: Seafood, Sisterhood & Kimono in Greenside

I haven’t been out in a while, but today I finally decided to step out for seafood with my sister and Lou, my only real friend, literally. Life has been full of changes lately, and in between everything, I haven’t made much room for a social life. But when I do go out, it’s usually with Lou.

Lou and I have been friends for about 15 years now. We met back in high school, and even though she had to return home to Switzerland for a while, we managed to stay in touch. That’s how true sisterhood is built, transitioning through all the different stages of life together, with all the ups and downs. Honestly, I’m not the best at maintaining long-term friendships (the homebody in me gets overwhelmed easily), but I’m grateful Lou challenged me to keep this one going.

But enough about that , let’s talk about food.

Today we tried out Kimono in Greenside, and I have to say, they’ve nailed the vibe. They’ve recently started serving the famous seafood boil, something I’ve been craving since it first went viral a few years back. The only problem? Back then I was living in a small town with zero access to it. So you can imagine how satisfying it felt to finally give in to this 5-year-long craving.

Of course, I had to pair my meal with a glass of Coke before digging in. I know it doesn’t sound like the healthiest choice, but honestly, it’s my go-to drink whenever I’m out, a little indulgence that makes the whole experience feel complete.

The ambience was exactly my kind of scene, cool , laid-back, with lo-fi beats playing in the background. If you’re into aesthetics, you’ll know that’s the perfect touch. Lou went for sushi, while my sister and I indulged in the spicy seafood boil. It came loaded with potatoes, boiled egg, calamari, prawns, crab, and sweet corn, all for R250, which we shared.

The fun part? They set us up with aprons, gloves, and scissors. Trust me, it gets messy fast, but that’s the joy of a seafood boil, no holding back, just diving in.

Overall, if you’re a chilled person looking for a relaxed Friday night vibe, I definitely recommend Kimono. Between the food, the music, and the atmosphere, it was worth every bite.
